Sergeant Oslaan + Oslaan was a sergeant in First Platoon, C-Company and considered one of the Company's most reliable non-coms. While not actually born on Cadia, Oslaan was born amongst the migrant ships evacuated from Cadia just prior to its destruction. First Lieutenant Halberd has earmarked the sergeant for eventual promotion to Platoon command once the opportunity presents itself. + Augustine Crusade + What began as a frantic withdrawal in the face of the Red Hand attack (M42.050), eventually became a protracted and bitter defense of the various pockets of Imperial control on Boreas. Elements of the Cadian 144th, alongside allies in the form of local militia and other battered regiments, became embattled around the small Hive-town of St Baston. With their backs to the Uplands and with weather conditions making resupply, support, or even evacuation, by air impossible, the Cadian Last dug in and began an 18 month staggering dance in the long winter of Boreas. Their goal was simple, survive til spring and await relief. By spring, word spread throughout the Crusades' forces of the 'Battered Bastards of St Baston'. #theaugustinecrusade #augustinecrusade #findxiahhesh
Cadian 144th+ Pictured here during the Siege of St Baston, on Boreas, during the Ardent System Counteroffensive (M42.051), the troopers of the Cadian 144th were one of a handful of Cadian regiments that were assigned to Warmaster Augustine's Crusade as a show of goodwill from the High Lords of Terra. Cadian regiments formed a Veteran core in a number of campaigns throughout the Crusade but never secured to the favour of the Warmaster enjoyed by those regiments raised locally in the Cetus-Scorpii Sector - the so-called 'Extraordinaries'. As the Crusade wore on, these regiments were worn down, merged with each other and finally forced to accept an influx of non-Cadian recruits to maintain their fighting strength. By M42.050, the 144th were the last Cadian Regiment in the Crusade that could boast that at least two-thirds of its troopers were 'pure-blood' Cadians. Warmaster Augustine himself referred to them - in somewhat bad taste - as his 'Cadian Last' - an epithet that stuck. #theaugustinecrusade #augustinecrusade #findxiahhesh
[…] by His will and in His name - and with the assent of the His most noble son, Roboute Guilliman, Lord Commander of the Imperium - the High Lords of Terra grant upon thee, Decian Augustus, the title of Warmaster. In this capacity, it is granted to him the powers of array in the Cetus-Scorpii Sector of His most holy Imperium, to raise in His name a Holy Crusade and to lead it, forth-width, into the Red Hand Region of His most Holy Imperium, there to banish the enemies of the Emperor and return His citizens to the Holy Light of His Imperium […]’ - Excerpt of the Imperial Writ, issued M42.033
Gothii Warclans + Tough, disciplined and fanatically loyal to Apostate-Warlord Xiah Hesh, the Gothii Warclans formed the back bone of many of the Red Hands' forces. As the war progressed and Imperial forces pushed ever closer to the Core Systems, Hesh would increasingly come to rely on those he could trust as paranoia began to grip the master of the Red Hand Dominate. Thus is was that the Warclans were trusted with the capture of Boreas - a vital objective in the Ardent System Counteroffensive, where they faced the 144th 'Cadian Last'.
Commissar + It's been a while since I've posted anything, I've been slowly chugging away in the background in between changing nappies. But enough about that, this mounted Commissar is well underway, a fun little side project, soon be shipped out for assignment to @lilagrax Tark's Reivers - a regiment of Rough Riders bound for the Augustine Crusade.
Captain Balak redux + Captain Balak was my first truescale attempt, and I've decided to remake him now, at the end of my Sons of Horus army. Back then, I was so focused on just trying to figure out how to truescale at all! But now I reckon I can do him more justice and graciously retire his former self. . Shout out to @conversionworld for their beautiful Raven sword. This shall be a souvenir from Istvaan. Its a beautiful sculpt and a bargain for the price, it also feels far sturdier than FW swords (and they threw a free sword in that I already have plans for!).
Captain Drear, by @path_of_nadir + An immensly talented hobby chum, @path_of_nadir has inked a little sketch of my very own Captain Drear of the Cadian Last. I am speechless.
Scout Sentinels+ With the conditions on Boreas worsening as winter progressed, roads and mountain passes became impassable to all but infantry and walkers. Scout sentinels became as battle tanks in the frozen mists. I've been practising some basic winter white wash camouflage on these, I'm happy with the results, the Cadian Last finally get some Armoured support.
Sons of Horus + After a marathon session, I have finished my third tactical squad of Truescale Sons. These will be the last tacticals I build, a total of thirty. Now just to finish the Reavers, the ten support marines and another Contemptor. Its mad to think that the end of this army is now in sight. Seems like only yesterday I built Captain Balak, my first truescale Astartes.
Tutorial + . I get asked a lot about my paint schemes and so have decided to do a quick step-by-step. It's the same scheme I use for my vehicles and dreadnoughts as well. . Step 1: a base of Kabalite Green, watered down a little bit, usually in two coats. . Step 2: a 60:40 mix of Kabalite Green and Sybarite Green with a healthy dose of Lahmian Medium applied as a layer onto the raised areas of the armour. . Step 3: a fine edge highlight of Sybarite Green. . Step 4: a wash of Coelia Greenshade mixed with Lahmian Medium. The medium is a god send and really reduces the shininess of the wash for a nice matt finish.
Chaplain Gurak + Leading the Reavers is Gurak, a desciple of Maloghurst, groomed in the warrior lodges of the Word Bearers, he now arrives at Balak's company to serve as a conduit for the taint of Chaos. He has already established a lodge of his own within the company, much to Balak's disgust. He would perish in the Solar War and would never land on Terra, but whether felled by the guns of the enemy, or slain by Balak, will never be known for sure.
